New Cariboo Honey Lager & BC Trees
VANCOUVER, BC—June 21, 2010—Pacific Western Brewery is celebrating the first day of summer today with the arrival of new Cariboo Honey Lager beer available at selected government liquor stores and private beer and wine stores throughout BC.
“We know Cariboo beer drinkers want real beer taste. So we’ve created a Honey Lager that has a pleasant body, is easy to drink and has a smooth finish with just a hint of honey to tickle the taste buds,” said brewmaster Peter Boettcher. “It’s perfect for barbecued burgers, grilled steaks and other summer favourites.”
Cariboo Honey Lager has 5.5% alcohol and is brewed with pure spring water from the region’s natural underground aquifer, barley from Saskatchewan, hops from Germany and honey from a beekeeper just outside of Prince George.
“Cariboo drinkers’ enthusiasm for both our original Cariboo Genuine Draft and the environment inspired our commitment to plant a minimum of 150,000 trees in BC over the next three years. Proceeds from this newest addition to the Cariboo family will also support reforestation in BC. In other words, more Cariboo beer—more BC trees.” said Kazuko Komatsu, President and CEO of Pacific Western Brewery.
“Today’s official launch of Cariboo Honey Lager coincides with the planting of the first 50,000 trees in the Cariboo region just last week,” said Komatsu.
Representatives from Pacific Western Brewery and the Ministry of Forests teamed up on June 17 to plant the first of 50,000 trees through the province’s Forests for Tomorrow program. These trees now cover 40 hectares of land just outside of Prince George; ultimately creating 99 acres of healthy new forest. Over their 80-year lifespan, the oxygen produced by these 50,000 trees will offset 6,080 tons of carbon; the equivalent of taking over 1,500 average cars off the road for a year.
Established in 1957 in Prince George, BC, on a fresh water spring, Pacific Western Brewing Co. is Western Canada’s largest and longest established independent, Canadian-owned brewery. Pacific Western Brewery is committed to brewing consistently high quality beers, responsibly stewarding our shared resources and environment, and participating in programs and initiatives that benefit our local community and province.
