Pacific Adventures: Pond Hockey
Pacific Western Brewing teamed up with Solos Productions and a company called Adventure Architects to film a short video on Invermere and the BC Pond Hockey Series. Solos is a market leader in action sport videography and PWB supports the Northern pond hockey tourney as much as possible already, so we jumped at the opportunity to try something new! Invermere is a small town situated in the Columbia Valley aka The Rocky Mountain Trench, which lies between two Mighty Mountain Ranges. The Rocky Mountains and the Purcells. The population of Invermere is 3000 and in the summer months it climbs to ten thousand! The fact is that Lake Windermere attracts people from all of the world because it boasts the largest maintained skateable ice surface in the world – it is also used as highway! The first time you roll up and you see traffic in the middle of the lake it makes you wonder, are these people crazy? It has been happening for years and will continue to happen as long as there is ice, so we suppose so…
The 1st Annual BC Eastern Regional Pond Hockey Championships, took place on Lake Windermere. Twenty five teams from British Columbia, Alberta and even the United States. There was quite a scare with the warm weather that we have been having, but luckily it all came together. There were four rinks that were seventy five by one hundred and fifty feet, roughly eighty percent of an NHL rink. Players, fans and the production team enjoyed a non stop weekend of over one hundred and thirty five hockey games, countless Pacific Pils, new friendships and fond memories.
Since nobody fell through ice, the plans are being set in stone for 2013! If you like hockey you need to be involved in the BC Pond Hockey Championships. It’s a great time for all.
